# Licensing Scope

This repository is an **open-content project**. It contains two separately licensed categories.

## Content: CC BY-NC 4.0

Unless a file or entry in `ATTRIBUTIONS.md` says otherwise, prose, translations, original diagrams, learning templates, and author-created media under these paths are licensed under the [Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License](LICENSE-CONTENT.md):

- `README.md`, `MAINTENANCE.md`, and repository policy/documentation Markdown;
- `docs/**/*.md`;
- author-created media in `docs/assets/`.

Attribution should name `byoungd and contributors`, link to `https://github.com/byoungd/up`, identify the source page, link the CC BY-NC 4.0 license, and indicate changes. Commercial use is not granted by this license; request separate permission from the relevant copyright holder.

## Code: MIT

Site configuration, theme code, automation, tests, build scripts, and CI configuration are licensed under the [MIT License](LICENSE-CODE.md), including:

- `docs/.vitepress/`;
- `scripts/`;
- `tests/`;
- `.github/workflows/`;
- JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS, JSON, YAML, and configuration files used to build or check the site.

## Third-party Material

Third-party quotations, linked images, product marks, book covers, screenshots, and restored archival material remain subject to their own rights. They are not relicensed by this repository. See [ATTRIBUTIONS.md](ATTRIBUTIONS.md) for source, status, and access date.

CC BY-NC restricts commercial use, while the Open Source Definition does not allow discrimination against fields of endeavour. Therefore the project should not be described broadly as OSI-approved open-source software. The code portion is MIT-licensed open-source software; the repository as a whole is an open-content project.
